Biography & Résumé

Ed Charbonneau is a painter and adjunct instructor in the Fine Arts Department of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Ed has painted commissioned artworks and murals for businesses and private collectors for more than twenty-five years. Ed is currently showing his paintings at the Holly Hunt Showrooms in Chicago and Minneapolis. He has exhibited his work at regional at venues such as the Barnes and Thornburg Law Firm in Minneapolis, the Rochester Art Center, The Minnetonka Center for the Arts, the Speedboat Gallery in St. Paul, and the Tweed Museum of Art in Duluth, Minnesota. Notable murals and large-scale installations can be found at the Urban Flower Field in downtown Saint Paul, the Medtronic Corporation in Columbia Heights, and the Minneapolis College of Art & Design in Minneapolis.

In 1996 he began sharing an art studio with fellow undergraduate classmate, Jeremy Szopinski, in the Lowertown area of Saint Paul, Minnesota. They were later joined by Jon Reischl in 1999 and Garrett Perry in 2008. Their current workspace, Rock 9 Studios, is located in Saint Paul, near its border with Minneapolis in a converted mattress factory warehouse where Ed’s grandfather worked his first job in the early 20th Century.

Ed lives with his wife, Erica, in their Mid-Century Modern Atomic Ranch-style home that was featured in the October 18, 2013 issue of the Minneapolis Star Tribune newspaper. They enjoy travel, hunting for antiques, gardening, and bicycling throughout the Twin Cities.
